International students can study at a Japanese KOSEN (College of Technology) via government financing or on your private finances.
MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at a Japanese KOSEN under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.
The grantees are exempted from tuition fees while they are receiving MEXT scholarships.
All KOSEN admit Malaysian students on Malaysian Government Scholarships.

Applicants who have completed an academic curriculum equivalent to upper secondary school enter the third year (equivalent to the third year of high school) at age 18 in Japan's school system. Students coming to KOSEN are usually older than the age of 19 at that time, having missed the first two years in Japan. They will thus be at a slight disadvantage, as Japanese students begin their practical training from the age of 16. Moreover, they might think that attending KOSEN entails an extra year to graduate compared to their Japanese counterparts. The third year for those students is worthwhile, however, in order to catch up with acquiring knowledge that other students have already learned since entering KOSEN.
This examination is conducted to facilitate an application for admission to certain KOSEN participating in this system, in order to efficiently offer convenience to privately funded students and KOSEN.
