CISE gathered faculty in charge of international students and international exchange at Okinawa KOSEN to establish a network among teachers at KOSEN, and share information about internationalization of KOSEN on June 21-22, 2009.
About 90 teachers came together from Hokkaido to Okinawa. They participated in a two-day program that consists of lectures, case announcements, discussions and so on.The case announcements were presented by some faculty: one of them had first come to Japan as an international student, and chose to become a KOSEN teacher later. The others had the experience of guiding international students in foreign countries, or they are working to accept international students in their KOSEN and so on. At the question and answer session, there were various questions concerning specific and practical strategy to internationalize their KOSEN.
Not only the faculties but also the students from KOSEN, who experienced the overseas internship program in March 2009, presented their reports in English to the participants. They confidently explained what they had learned about communication skills in the international business scene.
“The programs served as a reference to obtain advanced approaches and information of other KOSEN” said most participants. Although it was a tight schedule, participants could establish networks and exchange information with each other actively. Internationalization activities have been on going in each KOSEN, and the activities by other KOSEN are a major matter of concern for those who are in charge of internationalization, so this kind of meeting should be held regularly in the future.
