Ms. MIURA at Oita KOSEN wins Civil Engineering Education Award 2009

Ms. Nozomi MIURA at the Department of Civil Engineering of Oita KOSEN received the Civil Engineering Education Award 2009 from Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) for her international contribution. This award is given to students in KOSEN or junior colleges for their outstanding activities in the field of Civil Engineering. She is the first winner of the award for international contribution in the history of both JSCE and the Department of Civil Engineering of Oita KOSEN.

The prize was awarded to Ms. MIURA for her achievements as follows:
----Participating in internship for five weeks at Singapore Polytechnic which has an        agreement with KOSEN
----Planning and carrying out "STUDY VISIT" to accept twelve students from        Singapore Polytechnic.
       As chairperson of the organizing committee, she made the visit a success in        International Exchange between the students of Singapore Polytechnic and        Oita KOSEN.
----Volunteering to teach local people in Asian countries the skills of repairing sewing        machines.
       She was leader of the sewing machine volunteer club in Oita KOSEN. They helped        to repair sewing machines and taught the repair technique in Thailand and        Indonesia in 2007 and 2008. This was the part of "Support Program for        Contemporary Educational Needs" which was set up by MEXT(Ministry of        Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan). Oita KOSEN was        selected for the program from 2007 to 2009.
----Obtaining the pre-2nd grade of the Practical English Proficiency Test and receiving        the special award of the English Presentation Contest for Students in Colleges of        Technology 2008.
