Please tell me why you chose Ishikawa National College of Technology
I was attracted to the opportunity to learn specialized knowledge for five years.
Since my acquaintances were attending the school, I had many opportunities to hear about school life, and the content and other activities that I could learn seemed fun, so I thought I would be able to have a fulfilling student life, so I chose the technical college.
Please tell us why you chose the Department of Electronics and Information Engineering.
I was originally interested in the IT field, but it wasn't something I specifically wanted to do. I chose the Department of Electronics and Information Engineering because I thought I would be able to study a wide range of fields and find what I wanted to do.
Please tell us about your experience of participating in K-SEC events.
In the winter of my third year, I attended K-SEC's security winter school at the invitation of a friend. This event sparked my interest in security. Then, an external lecturer recommended that ``If you want to get a qualification, you should take the Information Security Management Exam,'' so I decided to give it a try and took it in my fourth year and passed.
There were times when I thought it would be difficult while studying to obtain a qualification, but there were many times when I found it enjoyable and studying was never a chore.
At the winter school, I found the talks from companies very interesting, but I was also impressed by the group work exercises that involved thinking about how to respond when an incident occurs. Although it was online, communicating with students from other technical colleges was an experience I had never had before, and I really enjoyed it.
Please tell me why you chose your current career path.
After attending winter school, I decided that I wanted to learn more about security and wanted to try it as a career, which led me to choose my current career path. I didn't have much confidence in my knowledge of security, so I joined LAC because I thought it would be nice to work at a company that provides extensive training.
Please tell me about the training
After 2 months of group training for all new employees, they are assigned to a department and received training for 3 months, although it differs depending on the department. After that, there will be on-the-job training until March. During OJT, the seniors who supported me one-on-one were very kind, so my initial confusion disappeared.
Please tell us about your current job content.
Currently, as a security consultant, I am learning every day through OJT in order to be able to solve customer problems. Specifically, I work with my senior colleagues to support the construction of CSIRTs and to station myself at customers' sites to conduct approval audits. I was very nervous at first, but thanks to my seniors, I gradually got used to it. I would like to continue gaining experience by looking at various companies and understanding what they are looking for.
Has your experience as a student been useful in your current job?
I can't keep up with customer meetings or in-house meetings without knowing the technical terms, so I feel that the information security management knowledge I learned from attending K-SEC events and studying for the entrance exam while attending school is still useful after joining the company.
Please tell us your future goals.
When I look at my senior colleagues who are active around me and have a difficult project, I sometimes find myself thinking, ``I should ask this person about this project.'' For example, in supporting the construction of a CSIRT, we provide a wide range of support, including education, vulnerability diagnosis, and incident response. As a consultant, I would like to absorb knowledge that will enable me to respond to a variety of situations so that I can become a person whose name is talked about and people say, ``Let's ask Mr. Akiyama.''
Please give a message to your juniors.
I originally wanted to work at a game company, but after attending winter school, I started thinking about trying security. If you find something you want to do, please try it.
