*We interviewed him after his internship while he was in his M1 year at the University of Tokyo Graduate School.
Please tell us why you chose Kisarazu National College of Technology
I had the impression that high school was an extension of junior high school, so I wanted to choose a different career path.
I considered a local high school like Yamamura Study Abroad, but I chose a technical college because I thought it would be more familiar and would allow me to study in a unique environment.
Did you have any experience using a computer before junior high school?
Actually, I used to use a computer before having a smartphone. When I was in the third year of elementary school, my father brought me a PC that he was planning to dispose of and told me to take it apart and disassemble it.
After disassembling it, I was told that I could use it once I had put it back together and was able to use it, so I read books and tried to remember what I had done when I disassembled it, and somehow managed to put it back together and be able to use it.
Then my father installed Excel and taught me the SUM function. From there, I continued to enter and cancel with the Esc key, and slowly learned how to input formulas. When I was helping out at the library in 5th grade, I saw a staff member making a list in Word, and I told him that it would be easier to use Excel because it already had borders, but he told me that he couldn't use Excel, so he decided to make a list. I was asked to make one myself.
Please tell us how you became interested in security.
I was influenced by Professor Keiichi Yonemura of the Department of Information Engineering, whom I became close to after living in the dormitory. Furthermore, I became a member of the dormitory's network committee and was entrusted with managing the network, and I learned many things while dealing with various issues.
Please tell us about your experience of participating in K-SEC events.
I participated in the Fukushima training camp (second block training camp held in March 2019), and it was my first time traveling alone with overnight accommodation, but I was able to learn what I learned together with upperclassmen, underclassmen, and other technical college students from the same Kisarazu National College of Technology. It was fresh. I still remember feeling frustrated because I couldn't solve the last problem my teacher gave me.
Please tell us why you chose your internship location.
As a member of the dormitory's network committee, I had the opportunity to talk with someone from Cisco Systems, and when I heard that they were recruiting for an internship, I applied.
Please tell me about the content of the internship.
I received training in advance to perform the actual troubleshooting duties of a TCE (Technical Consulting Engineer) position at Cisco.
During the first week, they received training on LINUX and networking, and then learned about past cases through role-playing with employees who would serve as their mentors as customers. After that, I worked at TAC (Technical Assistance Center), where I handled a wide variety of unresolved cases in the first stage, gaining experience in dealing with actual customers. I also participated in 1-on-1 meetings with employees and various meetings.
Has your experience while attending school been useful for your internship?
When I was a network committee member at a dormitory, I had a lot of experience in troubleshooting, and my security literacy has been useful in my work in general.
I remember well what I learned through hands-on training at the Fukushima training camp, especially the manual DOS attack, and I think I have acquired more than just knowledge.
Please tell us your future goals.
I hadn't thought much about it, but through this internship, I was starting to imagine what it would be like to work there. I think it will be more specific after I join the company.
Please give a message to your juniors.
I chose what I thought would be fun at the time. Some people may think it's better to stay at home than go out, but you won't find anything fun unless you go out and experience it, so I think it's a good idea to try various things. think. I want them to do and learn what they want to do at a technical college, a place where they can learn what they want.
Impressions and expectations regarding security personnel at technical colleges
Cisco Systems LLC Leader, Customer Delivery
Ryuta Takao Mr
Those who graduated from technical colleges have experience in programming, application development, server construction, network construction, etc., and they have the impression that they have very high technical skills.
I think that people who have close to practical experience while still in school are what companies are looking for right now.
We hope that you will continue to provide education that focuses on more practical content and produce human resources who can be active in the field.
