Please tell us why you chose Kisarazu National College of Technology
My parents also worked in the IT field, so I naturally had a computer at home from the time I was in elementary school and enjoyed playing games. As I played games, I started thinking about things like automating game operations. I could have gone to a regular high school, but I wanted to do something fun anyway, so I chose a technical college.
Please tell us why you chose the Department of Information Engineering.
The deciding factor was that I got programming experience during the trial enrollment. I enjoyed seeing things I created work, and at the time my hobby was playing games, so I planned to study how computers worked and aim to become a game developer.
Please tell us about your security-related activities during your studies.
The theme of my graduation research was "examination of methods to counter ransomware." I wrote a proposal to develop an anti-ransomware system, applied for the IT Super Engineer Support Program, and was selected for support. After receiving advice from engineers at LAC Co., Ltd. and participating in study sessions, we worked on developing a system that can detect and restore encrypted files infected with ransomware.
Around the same time, I participated in the ``12th Information Crisis Management Contest*'' with a group of members who had been approached by Professor Keiichi Yonemura, who was my supervisor at the laboratory, and won first place.
I also participated in the IVRC (Interverse Virtual Reality Challenge) and responded to various problems as a dormitory network committee member. I also did web development as a part-time job. I have also participated in the KOSEN security contest.
Please tell me why you chose your current career path.
It all started when I was in my first year of majoring and thinking about finding a job, when Professor Yonemura invited people from companies to attend a seminar. At that time, I became interested in cloud computing, especially serverless architecture, and wanted to be involved in building applications and developing businesses that utilize it, so I went to work for the company of the instructor. At that time, seminars were held almost every month with lecturers from companies, so in hindsight I think it was a very favorable environment. Due to my first job, I changed jobs and am now in my current position.
Please tell us about your current job content.
I work as an engineer providing technical support in a cloud computing business. My job is to solve problems for customers who are facing technical issues in order to make better use of our company's services. Recently, my focus has been on database-related work.
Has your experience as a student been useful in your current job?
I think that the fact that I have the basic knowledge of computer science that I learned at technical college, and the various knowledge that I have gained through extracurricular activities, is useful in my work. .
Although I was inspired by friends and teachers around me, I had gotten into the habit of not only attending classes, but also studying things that interested me, so I took classes for five years. I think I learned more than just taking the test.
When it comes to security, it is not enough to just focus on technology; it is necessary to communicate with customers about what they want to protect and why.
I believe that the basic knowledge I gained about security while attending school has given me the ability to understand customer concerns. In that respect, I think the Information Crisis Management Contest, unlike other CTF competitions, was an opportunity for me to demonstrate similar skills through practical experience.
Please tell us your future goals.
From my current position, I would like to work a little more closely with customers, such as consulting, but the industry itself is changing rapidly, so I think my interests will change accordingly.
My goal is to continue to work according to my interests at the time, to continue to absorb various things, to utilize my multiple past experiences, and to be active in a wide range of fields as an engineer.
Please give a message to your juniors.
I think it's a good idea to try anything if you're even slightly curious. As a result, I didn't go into the pure security industry, but my experience and knowledge are definitely not wasted. In fact, I think that if you go to a different field, you might be able to get involved in a variety of activities.
