"KOSEN" leaps into the world

A unique higher education institution that is a global leader: KOSEN

Colleges of Technology (KOSEN) are unique higher education institutions in Japan that accept talented and ambitious young people after graduating from junior high school and develop human "assets" that are "society's assets" with high levels of expertise and a spirit of challenge through a five-year integrated core course. Colleges of Technology have grown significantly with the times, and three years ago, they reached the milestone of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the KOSEN system, and are continuing to leap forward to become global KOSEN, aiming to develop advanced human resources for the new era.
Colleges of Technology are "higher" educational institutions that are based on the development of human resources that make the most of each individual's individuality and leave no one behind, and that place emphasis on the development of practical and on-site skills as well as academic knowledge from basic to applied. The education they provide is characterized by its aim to further advance specialized knowledge and technology that connects basic to applied knowledge to social implementation. Today, in order to develop the ability to discern trends in local and international communities and what people want, they aim to provide STEAM education that combines advanced specialized knowledge (STEM) with liberal arts (A) in order to develop social implementation. They are also working to develop entrepreneurs who will take on start-up businesses that will create new industries.
Currently, approximately 60% of students who graduate from the undergraduate course enter society and play an active role as key players in the development of industry and society in Japan. Forty percent go on to the specialized course to receive two years of more advanced specialized education, transfer to four-year universities nationwide, such as universities of technology and science, study abroad at universities overseas, or start their own businesses; their career paths are extremely diverse. Graduates of the undergraduate course and specialized course are in high demand for employment and are able to choose the path that almost perfectly suits their wishes.

Developing unique, cutting-edge human resources

The National Institute of Technology, an independent administrative institution, has established 51 national colleges of technology (55 campuses) nationwide, including five colleges of technology related to maritime trade. The total number of students is about XNUMX, the largest among national engineering higher education institutions in Japan, and the total number of full-time faculty and staff is about XNUMX. Today, they are known domestically as "KOSEN" and overseas as "KOSEN", and their unique educational methods and practical and creative human resource development are highly regarded in the industrial and educational worlds, as well as the international community. KOSEN graduates have begun to play active roles overseas, and there is a growing movement to establish KOSEN.
In addition to lectures, National College of Technology promotes experiments, practical training, practical skills, and social implementation education from a young stage of development. Furthermore, by utilizing various contests such as the National College of Technology's unique robot contest (Robocon), programming contest (Procon), design competition (Desacon), English presentation contest (English Precon), disaster prevention and mitigation contest, deep learning contest (DCON), and National College of Technology Women's Idea Contest for the realization of SDGs (GCON), they produce highly skilled engineers and entrepreneurs who have flexibility of thought, creativity, and initiative based on high-level field and practical skills.
In addition, through experiential learning such as internships overseas, students have acquired practical skills that can be used internationally. This kind of technical college education is effective in developing engineers with flexibility of thought, creativity, independence, and a rich international perspective. Furthermore, we have male and female student dormitories as well as international dormitories, and by experiencing a variety of dormitory life, we develop engineers who are richly educated and humane, have a spirit of challenge, and are creative and practical. Growing up.
This unique educational institution nurtures not only Japan's pride in "monozukuri" (manufacturing), but also highly creative innovators, including DX and GX-related human resources who are responsible for "kotozukuri" (creating new value by combining different fields). In order to acquire the ability to challenge various social issues, the quality of education is guaranteed from an international perspective through achievement evaluation based on the revised and updated version (MCC-Plus) of the Model Core Curriculum (MCC). As a result, by the time of graduation from the undergraduate program, students have acquired specialized knowledge and skills equivalent to or higher than those of a four-year university, as well as practical skills that are internationally applicable. In addition, there are dormitories for men and women, as well as a mixed-use international dormitory, and by experiencing a variety of dormitory life, engineers (engineers) who are rich in humanity and have a bold spirit of challenge (the essence of Kosen education: the "Kosen spirit" that is attracting attention from the world) and who have creativity and practical skills are nurtured.

Nurturing "social doctors" and "innovators and creators" who will be active around the world

The environment surrounding today's international society and the industrial structure of society are undergoing major changes. A technical college is a place of learning where young people can shine and work hard in order to develop human resources who can meet the demands of the times by boldly taking on the challenges of the globalizing society, changing academic and industrial fields, and a new era. will continue to be. In addition, in response to the demands of the international community, we will promote international contribution activities to expand "KOSEN" education internationally. "KOSEN" has become an international word.
In order to respond to today's rapid advances in science and technology and major changes in the international social environment and industrial structure, we will strive to develop human resources who can create the future on the world stage, in other words, human resources who have the "power to change" to look ahead and grow as leaders of a new era. Colleges of Technology will continue to be places of learning where young people can boldly take on various social issues, shine, and hone their skills, thereby developing human "assets" that can meet the needs of the times. In addition, in response to the needs of the international community, we will also promote international contribution and international expansion activities to expand "KOSEN" education overseas.
Through education and research, the College of Technology aims to train students to become world-class, highly skilled "social doctors," "innovators," and "creators" who will develop society and create the future in a fair and healthy way, and who will lead the way in creating a bright future society.
