Characteristics of the KOSEN education

The technical college is certified to have the same level of education as an international university through its efforts in the ``JABEE'' professional education program for internationally recognized engineers.

This is where technical college education is excellent.

General subjects include not only the basic subjects of mathematics, physics, and chemistry, but also social sciences, languages, health and physical education, and the arts.

Basic and specialized subjects are effectively arranged throughout the five years. The curriculum is designed to encourage students to increase their understanding and problem-solving skills at each stage of their studies.

Technical colleges are equipped with experimental and research facilities suitable for higher education institutions. In order to acquire the ability to apply what has been learned, emphasis is placed not only on theory but also on experiments and practical training. Additionally, students will gain work experience at companies through internships and factory tours.

Through their graduation research, students develop a spirit of independence and the ability to conduct research, including development and design, as creative engineers.

In order to respond to changes in the industrial structure and various developments in modern science and technology, some technical colleges have introduced new departments such as the Department of Information Design, Department of Management Information, Department of Communication and Information Studies, Department of International Distribution, and Department of Applied Biochemistry. It is installed. Each of these departments provides education under a unique curriculum.

Computer education that is responsive to the IT revolution is being provided in all departments, and each computer is connected to the Internet via the campus LAN. Students can access other educational programs through the Internet.

The College of Technology conducts effective internships in collaboration with local industries and local governments, and approximately 8,000 students experience internships each year. In addition, all departments have incorporated internships into their curriculum, and we are working to further promote them by converting them into credits.

At the National Institute of Technology for Merchant Marine, we train to become captains and chief engineers.

“About JABEE initiatives”

JABEE (Japan Accreditation Board for Engineer Education) is a general incorporated association that aims to ensure the international equivalence of Japan's engineer education, promote engineer education, and contribute to society through the development of internationally competent engineers. was established in 1999 with the purpose of contributing to the development of industry. Through collaboration between academia and industry, we certify specialized education programs aimed at developing engineers conducted by higher education institutions such as universities and technical colleges based on unified standards.

As political, economic, and industrial globalization continues to advance, internationally recognized qualification certification has become important, and technical colleges are also actively working to obtain program certification. As of March 2, 3 schools and 39 programs have been certified.

In addition, programs certified by JABEE guarantee that the educational level of the fourth and fifth years of technical colleges and majors is at the same level as universities internationally, and those who complete the program will receive the national qualification of assistant professional engineer. qualifications will be granted.

Facilitating degree awarding

A new degree awarding review will be applied to students who are expected to complete their major courses after March 28, which have been certified by the Japan University Reform Support and Academic Degrees Awarding Organization. became.

Previously, in order for students who were expected to complete their major to receive a bachelor's degree, they had to undergo a review of their earned credits, learning outcomes, and exams by the Japan University Reform Support and Degree Awarding Organization.

Under the new review, each technical college will undergo a review by the Japan University Reform Support and Academic Degrees Granting Organization, and students who belong to approved majors will have their earned credits reviewed based on the new standards and A degree will be awarded after completing a "comprehensive subject" (completion research, etc.) and submitting a "study plan" and "summary of results" for review.

With the new screening method, students who are expected to complete their major will no longer be required to take the exam for degree conferment, which they previously had to take individually, and students will be able to concentrate more on their final research. Become.
