[KOSEN] National College of Technology x Industry: Educational Institutions Take on the Challenge of "Quality Assurance" for Semiconductor Human Resources - A New Era of Industry-Academia Collaboration Certification Model Quantifying the "Work-Ready" Skills Companies Seek
The National Institute of Technology (Hachioji City, Tokyo, Chairman: Isao Taniguchi, hereinafter referred to as "KOSEN"), an independent administrative institution, has jointly developed with CertPro Co., Ltd. (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, Representative Director and CEO: Mitsuru Chikamori) the Semiconductor Skills for Kosen Certification (SSKC), a certification system that evaluates and certifies students' semiconductor skills to the level required by industry, primarily at Kumamoto National College of Technology (Yatsushiro City and Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Principal: Hiroshi Takamatsu, hereinafter referred to as "KUSEN"). The first year of demonstration testing for the fundamental level (Fundamental 0) was completed in 2024, and demonstration testing for the applied level (Fundamental 1) will begin this fiscal year.
The greatest feature of this system is that it links the educational curriculum with the needs of industry. While existing qualification exams aim to evaluate the skills of practitioners, SSKC is a "quality assurance system" rooted in the educational field that evaluates the results of students' learning according to the standards required by industry.
The SSKC consists of two levels: Fundamental 0 and Fundamental 1, and questions correspond to the course content of students studying specialized fields related to the semiconductor industry, such as mechanics, materials, electricity/electronics, information, and chemistry. This makes it easier for companies to determine a student's technical level when hiring, and allows students to clearly understand their own market value.
This is a new model of collaboration between education and industry that utilizes a network of 51 technical colleges across the country with approximately 50,000 students.
